Wow, this is quite a “best of” list, really cuts through all the web 2.0 clutter out there.

Only one comment, sadly I didn’t see a porn or adult content category.

Surely the adult entertainment industry has a role in the usergenerated, collaboratively filtered, hyper interactive world of web 2.0? No?

Al said in October 28th, 2006 at 10:45 pm

Great list! I’ve noticed that some of the Web 2.0 sites are starting to use Flash (see http://www.hotsolder.com/2006/10/web-20-flash-sites.html). I wonder if that will be a trend? I personally don’t care for flash but these sites do show off some functions that would be a bear to do without it (or something similar like Java).

Revver is another great video hosting platform with the tiwst that we pay creators for their work as well as sharers for sharing their content. We have the most robust and flexible API of any of the video portals – allowing you to create a full video portal accepting user registration, content upload, and playback all from your own site (with your own branding). (For more info, see http://developer.revver.com/)

We also have an incredibly customizable JavaScript widget that people have made entire sites with.

Video quality is also orders of magnitude better than most of the others on the list.

For video I second the comments about http://www.revver.com. Also, there’s VEOH.

On the music front, did I miss last.fm? Last.fm, mog, goombah, haystack… the list grows daily.

Also, check out OnTour ( http://www.ontour.net) to match up your music library with concert tour dates and stay on top of who’s coming to town.

I’d also add to the list http://www.kSolo.com, an online karaoke site. Karaoke isn’t my thing, but it works for a lot of people. kSolo let’s karaoke fans perform, listen, and share online. Plus users can post their “ksolo” performances on their websites.

In finances category, check out Blinksale.com and their online invoice service.

And I’m not sure if this fits the criteria here, but ChangeThis.com, with it’s unique collection of manifestos, is an engaging resource of ideas, opinions and “white papers” on a variety of topics. Maybe file under World Improvement.

Great list! I have one suggestion for an addition to the list (albeit a self-interested one) – wine communities. Sites like OpenBottles (http://www.openbottles.com), Cork’d and TastyDrop are bringing together people from all around the world and helping them share information and recommendations about wine. It’s making a real difference in the way people research and buy wine. Thanks for the consideration.

ThemBid.com operates on a simple principle: customers know what they want and someone, somewhere has got it. Let’s say you need someone to fix your leaky roof; rather than wasting time researching the matter, post on ThemBid.com and businesses will compete to provide you service. Businesses get free advertising and direct customers.

Customers in the meanwhile, get the best rates, and there’s no need to search through the yellow pages or super pages, or any pages really; ThemBid.com takes care of the work for you. Ratings allow users to make informed decisions.

At Thembid.com, you can stop searching and make them bid!

This week, Dutch company Braindevils BV released their new product: Checkser – the wiki of checklists. Now everyone can create a checklist, add to or enhance an existing checklist or… just use them.

Using web 2.0 techniques like drag-and-drop and edit-in-place, Checkser provides a very easy to use interface for editing checklists.

Authors are anonymous by default, but can make themselves know by providing an openID. Companies can use the checklists as a teaser for their products by making use of the “read more…”-link ability.

Hi all,

I know a good web 2.0 application (at least it’s an interesting concept). It’s name is ParallelW2. ParallelW2 represents the birth of convergence of Object-oriented Business Applications and the Web 2.0 Internet concept. The aim of ParallelW2 is to collaboratively generate a global, shared Database which univocally identifies all the objects of the real world and makes it possible to operate in the virtual world as in the real world, thus helping to improve social well-being.

For example: A person creates a City type object. Another person creates a Hotel type object and associates it with the City. Another person creates a Healthcare Center type object and associates it with the City. The created city is no longer a city. It is a city with a Hotel and a Healthcare center created by other users!

I'd add ManagePro to the Project Management and team collaboration list above. This software also aligns business strategy with HR performance.

A whole new caterogy to add is Web 2.0 development tools, like form builders. I'd recommend http://www.PandaForm.com a simple form builder and manager. But it does everything I need, from collecting payment, to feedback, and contact forms.

Excellent post. These days Web 2.0 sites are becoming more and more popular. Sure they are great for people that want a place to create a free website or journal, but they have many other uses as well. A lot of people use them for their SEO efforts. For the longest time, Google has seen these Web 2.0 sites as having more authority then your common run of the mill website.
