XAML is NOT a replacement for SVG. The graphics part of XAML is a very small part of the whole. Sure, you can write graphics in XAML, and being an XML format, it’s very similar to SVG, but you can also define workflows, set up windows, apply triggers for events, set up a communications framework.

XAML is a declarative language for writing .NET applications, where SVG is simply a graphics markup language. It makes MUCH more sense to just apply the graphics portion of the language as integrated rather than move toward SVG (which isn’t really used everywhere, after all…raster graphics are still quite the norm). Heck, for that matter FLASH doesn’t use SVG as it’s format.

Back on track, how could you forget KAZAML? It’s the better XAML pad available these days..and free. In addition, if you are using XAML with anything in .NET, the MOLE visualizer is almost a must have…again free.
